Electronic Funds Transfer Reports (EFTRs) capture cross-border wire transfers of CAD 10,000 or more, instructed at the request of a client and either sent out of Canada (outgoing EFTR) or received from outside Canada (incoming EFTR). EFTR data is one of FINTRAC's most-used datasets in financial intelligence. This course walks reporting staff through the EFTR trigger, aggregation rules, originator and beneficiary information, intermediary handling, exemptions, the timing and method of submission, and how to correct errors. It also addresses the Travel Rule and how it interacts with EFTR. Sample EFTR filings illustrate every field.

You will learn the EFTR trigger and aggregation rules, the originator and beneficiary information requirements, how to handle intermediary banks, applicable exemptions, the timing and method of submission, and how the Travel Rule interacts with EFTR.
