Fraud is one of the most persistent threats facing MSBs. Romance, investment, grandparent, employment, and emergency scams routinely use remittance and FX channels to move stolen funds quickly and irrevocably. MSBs that fail to detect and intervene can suffer reputational damage, civil claims, and increased regulatory attention. This course equips MSB front-line and back-office staff to recognize the most common fraud typologies that touch the industry, intervene with potential victims in a respectful and effective way, and document the encounter in a manner that supports STR filing and law enforcement follow-up. Real Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and FINTRAC operational alerts are used as the basis for the course's red flags and case studies.

You will learn how to identify the most prevalent fraud typologies in the MSB context, including romance scams, emergency/grandparent scams, investment and crypto-investment fraud, business email compromise, and elder fraud. You will learn how to engage potential victims at the counter or over the phone, when to delay or refuse a transaction, and how to escalate to the compliance officer.
