Credit unions face bribery and corruption risk through commercial lending, dealings with municipal and provincial entities, and third-party relationships. The CFPOA, the Criminal Code, and provincial conflict-of-interest rules all apply. This course gives credit union compliance, business, and operations staff a working understanding of how bribery and corruption can arise in credit union activities, the red flags to monitor in members and third parties, and how to operate gifts, entertainment, and political contribution policies appropriately. Case studies are drawn from Canadian financial-sector enforcement actions and credit union-specific scenarios.

You will learn the elements of bribery and corruption offences under Canadian law, how to assess bribery risk in credit union activities, how to perform meaningful due diligence on third parties, and how to escalate concerns through whistleblower and management channels.
