Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), Heads of International Organizations (HIOs), and their family members and close associates carry elevated ML risk — not because they are presumed corrupt, but because their position creates opportunities for misuse of public office and concealment of proceeds. This deep-dive course goes beyond foundational PEP awareness to address the practical operational challenges: definition boundaries, screening calibration, source of wealth and source of funds testing, ongoing monitoring, senior management approval, and exit decisions. It uses Canadian and international PEP-related enforcement actions as the basis for case studies.

You will learn the precise PCMLTFA definitions of foreign and domestic PEPs, HIOs, and their family members and close associates, how to operationalize screening including fuzzy and transliteration matching, how to test source of wealth and source of funds defensibly, how to apply enhanced ongoing monitoring, and how to manage exits.
