Money Service Businesses are among the most heavily scrutinized reporting entities under Canada's Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA). Whether your business deals in foreign exchange, money transfer, cashing or selling money orders, traveller's cheques, or dealing in virtual currency, you operate at the front line of Canada's anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing regime. Failure to comply with FINTRAC obligations can result in administrative monetary penalties, public naming, and revocation of your registration. This course delivers the practical, role-based knowledge MSB owners, compliance officers, agents, and front-line staff need to identify, mitigate, and report money laundering and terrorist financing risks. It is built around the five pillars of an effective MSB compliance program: the appointment of a compliance officer, written policies and procedures, a documented risk assessment, ongoing training, and a biennial effectiveness review. All examples, red flags, and reporting walk-throughs are anchored in FINTRAC's published guidance and recent enforcement actions, so learners leave able to apply what they learn from day one.
The AML/ATF Compliance Training for MSBs provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of Canada’s anti-money laundering (AML) and anti-terrorist financing (ATF) regulatory framework. The course explores the role of FINTRAC, the requirements of the PCMLTFA, and the obligations of MSBs as reporting entities. Through real-world examples and practical guidance, learners will gain insight into how money laundering and terrorist financing occur, the risks facing MSBs, and how to build an effective compliance program. Topics include the three stages of money laundering, client identification and verification, recordkeeping, recognizing suspicious transactions, red flags, and reporting obligations such as STRs, EFTRs, and LCTRs. Participants will also learn about the consequences of non-compliance, including administrative and criminal penalties, and the importance of a proactive compliance culture within their organization.
